A long time!

WOW!...it has been over a year since we have updated our blog. This is yet another thing that we start with excitement and vigor but then it fizzles as fast as it began. Oh well...this isn't a college class project that HAS to be done. Anyway, so what has been going on? First of all Mike and the Family got to come back from Oklahoma to TEXAS! YEAH! We are now at FT HOOD this has come to be our home away from home. In September, Mike deployed with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division; to Northern Iraq (Mosul). By the grace of GOD and lots of prayer Mike will be home in just a few months. At home Princess started school in her kindergarten year, and of course she is one of the class favorites (Yes I am one of those parents who thinks their child is the best). Toodles is growing like a weed and just as stinky as one as well. AJ is doing very well in school and is in advanced Math (I would have never guesses). Bubba is doing awesome in school as usual, he is also part of the schools Robotics Team. He tells us almost everyday that he wants to be an Engineer. Well, there it is in a nutshell. Hope you didn't get too bored. Hopefully, we will be better at keeping this updated......don't hold your breath.

Christmas 2009

We had a great Christmas this year! We went to Abilene, TX. the day before Christmas Eve. We were very surprised to wake up on Christmas eve morning to about 4 inches of snow! What a treat! This was the kids very first White Christmas ever! It was Heather's too! The kids could not wait to get out in it. We dressed them up the best we could ( we were not prepared at all) and braved the weather. The snow was beautiful, the 50 mph wind was not so much.

The wind did let up later that day and we were able to play. The boys had a blast the girls stayed out long enough for me to snap a few pictures and then head in for some hot chocolate! That night we got to open all our presents. The kids got all they wanted, minus a dune buggy, plus more.

We still had a lot of snow on the ground Christmas morning. While all the grown ups were trying to get Christmas dinner on the table, the kids played for hours in the snow. Bubba was the most constructive.

The day after Christmas, we got to go to Austin and see my Uncle. He has had some heart problems for the last 6 months and has not improved much. It was great to see him. He may not get around as fast as he used to, but he is still very much the man I have always known. It was a wonderful visit!

We were able to come home December 28th. We were ready for our own beds! By the next day Heather's dad (Dave) came to visit and we had more snow!!! We all went out and has a snowball fight. Dave had a lot of fun!

Dave stayed for New Years. We Celebrated here at home and Mike cooked the biggest and best steak EVER and we played Wii with the kids most the night. We toasted at midnight and went to bed. It was quiet, fun, and not very eventful, but it was perfect for us!

We should be finding out next month where we will be headed next. So far the list looks like it will either be Ft. Carson, CO. or Ft. Hood, TX. We will post when we know for sure.

So for now....Happy New Year Everyone!!!! May you be blessed beyond your imagination.

HALLOWEEN 2009

The Myers Battery decided to go to Dave's house to go trick or treating. We wanted to be in a nieghbothood that we knew well. Heather's sister came in to go with us. When she got to Dave's we thought the kids would need some nutrition so we got some pizza! After we ate, we somehow managed to get 12 kids dressed in there costumes. Everyone looked great! We had everything from Holly Hobby to the Dark side of Star Wars!
We had a really fun time getting all the candy. The kids have enough to last well into the Christmas holidays when the stash should be replenished!
Mike has officially started Captains Carreer Couse. He is stressed, but is confident that he will get through it. The hardest part will only last for about three weeks. Hopefully from there, it will be smooth sailing. He will get to visit with the Field Artillery Branch in about a month to figure out where the battery will be stationed next!! We are hopeing for Ft. Hood, but Ft. Carson would be great too. Please pray for Mike as he gets through this course. Until then, we are enjoying Lawton Oklahoma as much as possible. We can't wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas to spend some extended time in TEXAS!!!

Great Weekend

Well let's see now.....The family had a really great Columbus Day weekend. Mike got another day off and the family got to be together for some fun in the cold. First of all, we took a trip to Wichita Falls TX to go the Shepard AFB Air Show with Dave (Heathers Daddy). Unfortunately, the best thing about this show is that it was FREE. Don't get me wrong, we did have a lot of fun looking at the airplane's, but it was kind of cheesy. The kids really loved the C-17 and the B-52. I really liked looking at the 1917 "Jenny" the first plane that was mass produced in the US for US Forces.

On Sunday, we were bad...we didn't go to church....I know we are horrible. Instead, we stayed home to watch the Dallas Cowboys squeak a win out in overtime against KC....a 0-4 KC. It was quite sad really. Anyway, enough about Romo and the crappy play calling and coaching. On the brighter side of the day, we ventured out to the Duck Pond here in Lawton and then the wilderness of Mt. Scott and the wildlife refuge. We got to show Dave the crazy attacking ducks of Lawton OK. You can't even get out of your car before they are attacking you wanting bread. It was a fun time had by all except Bubba who for some reason, is scared to death of the Ducks. We then had a blast exploring and climbing rocks at Mt. Scott. Our Dave went with us and he is such a good helper and a fun guy to play with. While we were there we also saw some Buffalo. We are truly blessed by GOD to have such a great family. I thank HIM for everything that we have.

A Good Weekend

Well lets see. Our family had a pretty good weekend. First of all we went to Mike's cousin Shannon's football game. Shannon is a coach for Mesquite Poteet High School in Mesquite Texas. The Poteet Pirates played their hearts out but lost in the end. Oh well better luck next time guys. On Saturday The Myers Battery along with Heather's Dad, Sister and all 10 of her family went to the Texas State Fair!!! For all yall who are Texans you know that this is a pretty big deal. For all you folks that are not from Texas, it its the largest state fair in the WORLD!! Of course everything in Texas has to be bigger and better...I mean .....this is the state fair where the corn dog was invented. It is also the home to such culinary delights such as fried coke, fried cheesecake, fried PBJ sandwich's, chicken fried bacon and last but not least deep fried butter! We had a blast. The car show was a bit disappointing due to the fact that they had no concept cars just 2010 models. Sunday the Battery went to our home church, Pantego Bible Church.
Mike is a little sad this week because one of his best friends in the whole world, John Folk, got out of the Army and went home on Friday. Mike had been with John since OBC (officer basic course). They deployed together from March 08 to March 09 to Baghdad Iraq. Mike will survive, he is just a little down that yet another good friend and great officer got out.
The Battery is planning to go to Arlington for Halloween so the kids can trick-or-treat in a neighborhood that we know and feel safe in.
Oh before I go....I'm about to piss off alot of Cowboys fans. I think my beloved Cowboys whom I have ALWAYS been a fan, need to get rid of Tony (I'm a giant choke artist) Romo. Sorry just had to get that off my chest.

Monday, September 14, 2009

So here it is ladies and gentlemen....the VERY FIRST post on the Myers Battery!!! (loud applause and never ending cheers). Well lets see...we have finished moving in to our "lovely" new home in good'ol Lawton Oklahoma. That's right, your ears are not playing tricks on you. Mike is here for the Field Artillery Captains Career Course. We will be here for about 8 months. Mike is really wanting to return to our home away from home at Ft. Hood as soon as we are finished here.

Bubba, AJ and Princess are currently being home schooled due to the "really awesome" Lawton ISD being either overcrowded or having such a horrible gang problem. Heather is doing a great job keeping all the kids on task as far as school is concerned, and thanks to her sister, Heather has a lot to work with. Mike and Heather are really missing all their friends from Ft. Hood. I guess that is something you have to get use to being in the Army....the (temporary) loss of friends. Oh well! Mike starts his refresher course for gunnery on October 1st. He will start the actual Career Course on Nov 2nd and will graduate on May 11th.

GOD has been good to our Battery and we pray that he will continue to favor us. We know we don't deserve it.
